The Latest from the IWS
Guest Conducting
Charles Conrad will be guest conductor for a Fred Jewell concert with the Brazil Concert Band on Sunday,
August 22 at 8:00 in the Brazil City Park. The Brazil Band has been around since the late nineteenth century, and Fred Jewell actually
conducted the ensemble at least once in 1902!
A Fond Farewell
We say farewell to Horn player Scott Bostwick, who has accepted
a position of Director of Bands for the Independent School District of New Waverly, which is located north of Houston, TX. Also to
Horn player Camden Mullis, who is moving back to her hometown of Lafayette to accept a position as Band Director at a private school.
Baritone saxophone player Michael Payne says goodbye, as he and his wife Sara have moved to Lexington, KY to pursue graduate degrees
in music. Trumpeter Nathaniel Patty is changing his work situation in preparation to move to the University of Oklahoma to start a
Master's in Trumpet Performance.
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
For the third time two members of the IWS have been married - to each other.
Congratulations to Horn player Jacob VanderHaeghen and Principal Euphonium Laura McIntyre. They were married in a wonderful lakeside
ceremony at Rick's Boatyard Cafe. Also congratulations to Clarinetist Annie Lynch, who was recently married and is now Annie Burns.
Laura McIntyre-VanderHaeghen (now officially the longest name in IWS history) and Trombonist Angelo Anton are starting Master's degrees
in Music at Butler this Fall. Laura will start a degree in Music Education and Angelo goes to the dark side and begins a Master's
in Conducting.
Spreading the Joy of Music
IWS Principal Bassoonist Gary Doherty is in South Africa, where he is serving as a consultant
for music education programs. He is also the Director of Bands at Arsenal Technical High School.
