One hundred years ago, a concert titled “An Experiment in Modern Music” brought together musical greats such as John Philip Sousa, along with all of the music critics in New York. One work stood out and has since withstood the test of time: “Rhapsody in Blue.”
A century later on February 25, 2024, piano soloist Kelleen Strutz will perform the work at this concert. Other Gershwin favorites will include “Strike Up the Band,” “Swanee,” selections from “Porgy and Bess,” and “Prelude No. 2,” a little-known title but a recognizable melody. Plus, enjoy the premiere of “A Wave Returns to the Ocean” with composer Charles D. Norris in attendance.
